Tour of Britain - Tour of British Fleece 2015

With the Aviva Tour of Britain cycle race scheduled to pass through Gilsland on Day 5 of the 2015 race, Gilsland's Fibre Fridays group decided to make an effort.  Pictured are local and not-so-local spinners spinning outside the Village Hall on Thursday 10th September 2015 as the cyclists rode by. 

Spinners all over the world spin along with the cyclists during the Tour de France in an event known as the Tour de Fleece - so why should the Tour of Britain not have its own Tour of British Fleece?

The idea grew legs and soon spinners all over the UK and beyond were swapping fleece with each other so that on each day, as the cyclists pedalled, spinners would treadle their wheels and spin the fleece of the sheep which grazed alongside the route.  Find out more about the Tour of British Fleece on its website http://tourofbritishfleece.weebly.com
